Load capacity and environmentally friendly transport
Freight trains are five times more energy-efficient than trucks due to their low rolling resistance. Steel is lighter than rubber on asphalt. A freight train can replace up to 52 trucks, reducing unnecessary fuel consumption from stop-and-go traffic in cities or on highways. While the automotive industry is interested in alternative drives, electromobility in rail freight is already a reality. Railways perform 97 percent of their transport services electrically. The eco-balance of freight trains will continue to improve compared to other modes of transport.
Safety
On the railway, the safety of people and goods is significantly higher than on the road. For this reason, many hazardous materials can only be transported by rail.
